The Jerusalem Municipality and the Israeli Athletics Association are pleased to announce that the city of Jerusalem has won from several countries, to host the European Athletics Championships U18 in 2022, the European Athletics Association chose the Israeli capital, after only 2 representatives left in the competition, Israel and Poland.
Championship games on such a scale are a great celebration, the citizens of Israel and the residents of Jerusalem will be able to enjoy the future generation of European athletics and watch them from the stands.
The Mayor of Jerusalem, Mr. Moshe Leon: “This is a great achievement for the City of Jerusalem! After many months of effort, I am happy that we succeeded and Jerusalem will be able to host the European Championship. A great sporting celebration awaits us in the capital. “
Mr. Ami Baran, Chairman of the Israeli Athletics Association: “I am pleased that the European Association has expressed confidence in the Israeli Athletics Association and the Jerusalem Municipality to hold the European Under-18 Championships in Israel. This is a historic step for the State of Israel in general and for Israeli athletics in particular.”
Deputy Chief of Staff Elisha Peleg, who headed the delegation, noted that this was a tremendous achievement for Jerusalem and the State of Israel and an expression of trust and support for European countries in Jerusalem’s status.
